ARATA CITY HOMES
As the land price is rising up so high in Jakarta city centres, moving to nearby cities such as Tangerang, Serpong, Bekasi, Bogor, is the only option that the citizens have. But the tra c jam to Jakarta city centres is so heavy for commuters who work there while living in the satellite cities. The developer sees the opportunity to build city homes with a ordable price (below 3 billion rupiah) for young families with middle class financial ability. The idea was to build a 3-storey house in a smaller piece of land.
Each house needs to accomodate the needs for young family with children. A personal carport, 3 bedrooms + 1 maid, living, dining, and kitchen, within a 4 x 15 m2 land.
A minimalist style of row house , or as we call it “city homes”, is inspired by Japanese urban living concept. Arata means “new” in Japanese. We use light and neutral colors for the interior and exterior to give a modern, clean, minimalist urban look.
We give more attention to the most important factors in a living space , which are the natural lighting and air circullation. These factors bring a healthy and comfortable environment to live in. Natural lighting also give di erent nuance through- out the day. Whether it’s a lovely morning, a cloudy afternoon, or a rainy day, they all bring life into the house itself. Mini- maxi concept of openings, which means we only use minimum quantity of spots for window / openings (modern Japanese style) in a room, but we put a maximum size window / openings on the selected spot. The sizes of the windows are big enough to pour in natural lights into the room, but not too much to make the room temprature too warm or causing glare from daylight.
Multi-function space for living, dining and open kitchen is naturally lighted from an open void at the back corner of each house unit. The void also enables cross-ventilation of fresh air inside the house.
